human is what we are. Essentially. There is something that connects all of us. Something that we all share. Something that is beyond belief. Something that makes us unique individuals. Something that makes us all the same. Something that is reaching back to the beginning of life itself. Something that will continue beyond our imagination. Something that seems somehow predictable. Something that can change in a split second. Something that is strong and resilient. Something that is weak and delicate. Something that is miraculous and wonderful. Something that can be horrifying and destructive. Something that is full of old wisdom. Something that can be compromised by ignorance. Something that is hilarious. Something that can be very sad. Something that can be easy. Something that can be very difficult. Something that is you and every living human on earth. human
We are humans. We are 99,9% the same. Nevertheless, we invest so much time and effort in bringing out every difference that we can think of. Creating boundaries, identities, we and them, me and you, essentially separating us from each other.
The human project is about exploring human connection without intellectual boundaries. What are the essential things that connect us all? What is it that we all share? Why are we so invested in creating all the virtual differences that separate us? What role plays identity and group identity in the quest to define us as individuals?
With the human project we are aiming to create a series of art pieces that look with different perspectives at the human individual within the (global) human network. The creative process involves a series of workshops with an interdisciplinary approach to answer the basic questions and a one-week work seclusion to produce the artistic pieces. The work week should be accompanied by daily practice to facilitate direct human connection. The results will be shown in an exhibition and, if possible, shown on an international tour.
